NOTES

Great job last week at the football game.  Keep up the hard work!!!

Here are some things I want you to keep working on, though.

1.     Breathe through your phrases.  Don't let the moment cause you to rush tempo.

2.     Body line.  Think about how you look standing still and is your body in alignment over the  hips.  Is your spine straight and is your chin facing the press box.

3.     Hand placement on your equipment.  It is super important that everyones hands be in the same place on the equipment as your manipulating the work.  It changes the speed and sometimes the overall look of what has been written if your hands are different.

4.     Body/Dance work.  Make sure that you are not tucking your heads on jumps.  This also goes back to body line and making sure the spine is straight and centered over the hips.

5.     Foot placement and Dance position.  Make sure you know when to flutter and when to march.  There should be a definite difference between the two.  As far as dance positioning is concerned, make sure you know where the foot is supposed to be on the body as far as posse' jumps, saute' jumps, any type of arabesque or tendue.  Make sure the foot does not sickle!!  Also make sure your arms know where to move through space and time.

6.     The most important note I can give to this group is to stay relaxed, calm and breathe.  If you can do that you will be FIERCE!  When we forget that, though, it looks a bit like popcorn popping and you know how I feel about that.  haha  LET'S BE FIERCE!!!

I love each and everyone of you and am so proud to be your director.  I expect to hear great things about this Friday's performance adding the ballad to our already impressive show.  Stay focused while warming up and go kick some butt, kiddos.

SLOW, SLOW---    Eric ;)

GUARD UNIFORMS

**Uniforms must fall under Putnam City School District Dress Code**

All will have black leggings.

I would prefer for females that you have a skirt or dress over the legging, also in black.

Top must be a 2 inch tank top or more.  NO strapless of any kind will be allowed.  If you choose to wear a spaghetti strap top, then you must have some kind of under garment under it to allow for the dress code.

Tops will not be revealing in any way.

We will go barefoot so you will need to purchase black flip flops for your half time uniform.  This is to allow for the travelling back and forth between warm up and performance sites.

Hair will be a hot mess!  I will show you what I want once we get closer to performances.  lol

Same goes with make up.

You will also need to purchase the warm up outfit that we will wear anytime we travel or are representing the PCN Pride.  We will get that info to you as soon as it has been decided.  You will need black tennis shoes to go with this outfit.

All show uniforms must be approved by Eric Daugherty on or before August 31st and must be complete by Sept 3.  No exceptions!!!

The simpler you can make your uniform, the better off you will be.  It just needs to be basic black.  Let the hair, make up and the flags take care of the visual asthetic.

Thanks-- ERIC

GUARD NOTES

Keep cleaning the dance at the beginning of the show!  It looks good but think about about body line and posture.

Flag work is still sloppy on opening statement.  Work out counts 1 thru 4 after the first 16.  The up down up flat, turn 5, 6.  It's those 6 counts that slow down everytime causing us to be late moving on the up slow grab grab back to the straight line.  It simply requires the correct focus!

Keep "Canyon" fresh.  It gets better everytime we do it.  Remember the main key to everything?

COUNT AND WATCH EACH OTHER!!!!!!!!!!!

Ballad is pretty good too.  However, I would really like to see more development of the characters up towards the press box.  It's focused too low right now.  Work on getting the chin and the chest to lift more.

Relax into the ribbon work.  You let the moment dictate tempo right now.  Remember to breathe through your musical phrases and you'll be fine.

You will be getting new drill tomorrow morning.  Brooks has been told that the opening dance/flag work has already been staged so you will be learning drill from the end of the drumming to the first movement into the arcs.  The arcs should be the same as I taught on Friday, but if they are not, simply follow the drill as you see it tomorrow.

Work hard this week and listen to Jessica!  She's your mother when I'm not there!!!  haha

I love you guys and can't wait to see how much you've learned once I get back.--  ERIC
