About the Boosters

Band activities cost money. Because of the expenses incurred in the operation of the band program, it is necessary for each student to pay a band fee. This fee pays for many of the things the band needs, such as uniform cleaning, purchasing instruments, band camp, staffing, competition registration fees, food, lodging, transportation, etc.

Should there be a hardship situation, please contact Ms. Clothier or the band booster presidents. We want every child to participate and NO CHILD WILL BE TURNED AWAY BECAUSE THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY THE BAND FEES. Parents and students receiving such assistance will, in turn, be asked to make a commitment to participate in all band rehearsals and activities; and assist in fundraising efforts to the best of their ability to help offset the costs.

Who is a band booster? If your child is part of the band program, you are! We welcome people without a student connection to the program, but all current parents and family members are strongly encouraged to become actively involved! And do we ever have fun! Everyone is welcome to work together to support and improve the band program for our children.

What do band boosters do? Whatever is necessary! There are numerous administrative responsibilities that go along with running a band program such as we have at PC North.

School budget has to be managed;
staff have to be hired;
permission slips and health forms obtained and filed for each band member;
contests and competitions to be organized; not to mention - -
the logistics of transporting over 100 marching band members (and their instruments!) to and from each performing event
chaperons recruited;
funds must be raised and kept track of;
luggage checked and stowed, as well as a thousand other necessary details.

Such massive undertakings require a lot of help. Band boosters also assist with every performance—preparing programs and refreshments, moving equipment, and even fixing last-minute uniform emergencies. As volunteers, we staff our annual music events that PC North hosts for area schools, as well as staff our summer marching band camp.

And, of course, we raise funds. Last year, we raised $31,350. We are often asked, “Why do PC North Band Boosters do so much fund raising?” While our school district is extremely supportive of our program, there are many extra expenses, which we gladly cover, that can help to improve our program.

Why you? If your teen is part of the program, you are part of the natural support system. If each of the hundreds of band parents contributed a modest effort, none of us would find the tasks difficult. Some of us really enjoy the camaraderie of regular booster events—both among ourselves and as opportunities to interact with a terrific bunch of kids—that we stay on after our own have graduated! Please join us and see how enjoyable it can be to do your part! Help us to provide ongoing support to our teens and their musical efforts.
