Parents and students frequently ask questions about the woodwind materials and equipment recommended for use in the Putnam City North program. While many great products exist in the marketplace, these are the standardized specifications recommended for our program. The following is a list of answers for these great inquiries. Mouthpieces: All Clarinets: Vandoren B-45 mouthpiece with a Dark Rovner ligature. All Saxophones: Selmer C* mouthpiece with a Dark Rovner ligature. Reeds: Marching Season: Leggiere Synthetic Reed- Strength 3. Concert Season: Vandoren V-12 Reeds- Strength 3, 3.5 or 4. Electronic Tuner: Electronic tuners overwhelmingly help students understand broad concepts concerning accurate pitch center. Since tuning is critical to the development of individual sound and group performance, a quality tuner provides visual reference to ear training. An inexpensive tuner is the Korg CA-30. Tuners that also incorporate a metronome are available and helpful. Be careful not to purchase a GUITAR tuner. It will prove ineffective for band instruments. All PCN wind players must invest in this tool. Suppliers: A variety of local music stores carry these items. A supplier of the marching band reed includes Weiner music at 1-800-622-2675. Regardless of the supplier used, students bring uniformity to the sound of our sections by using these specifications. When making purchases or considering step up instrument purchases, please contact the directors concerning questions or assistance. We are here to help you. Susan Clothier:
